The Cambridge Rocket Club hosted it’s first launch of 2024 on January 7th. The short notice winter mini-launch was greeted with overcast skies, 1 degree temperature and calm meandering winds, less than 10 KPH. A total of 6 club members and a grade 7 student working on a school project were present for the launch. The calm winds kept changing directions, however they all landed near the launch site and all models were recovered. The field has been cultivated making the surface very uneven and awkward to walk. We ended up flying 18 model rockets with a high success rate. We burned a total of 18 model rocket engines with a theoretical total impulse of 324 Neutons.
This was a great start to the new flying season and we hope to host additional short notice winter launches when conditions and interest permits.
BTW – Our grade 7 student successfully completed all 8 of his school project launches and gathered a lot of valuable altimeter data. In fact he had so much fun at his first model rocket launch, He has decided to join the club. Welcome aboard.
