The Cambridge Rocket Club successfully completed it’s sixth launch of the year at our LS-5 Mohawk Road launch site. We were greeted with blue skies, winds varying from 8 to 15 KPH and a high temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.
A total of thirteen members teamed up to launch a total of 50 model rockets, 5 boost gliders and 2 radio control rocket glider flights. The model rocket flights included two stage rockets, scale rockets, egg lofting rockets and a competition “E” altitude rocket (test flown on a “D” motor). All engine types from “A” to “G” were flown. We managed to burn 61 model rocket motors for a total impulse of 1,970 Newtons.
Despite the light winds, we did manage to lose one rocket in a tree and a second rocket that flew out of sight. We took a break from flying in the afternoon to have our annual BBQ lunch and also manage a swap meet where members exchanged model rocket kits. The scheduled night launch was cancelled due to the lack of participants.
